ABOUT
Maine-based flutist, guitarist, and composer, Carl Dimow is an eclectic and creative musician. His performances range from classical music to jazz, from klezmer to blues, and from original music for theater and film to traditional folk music. His performances have been hailed as “mesmerizing”, “brilliant”, and “sublime”.
Carl has appeared in concerts, festivals and school residencies in the US, Europe and Central America. He performs with the Casco Bay Tummlers klezmer band, which has toured throughout Europe and released three CD’s. Carl has also released two recordings with the Kolosko Dimow Duo, featuring both original material and arrangements of music from South America.
Other current projects include Choro Louco – a Brazilian ensemble; Bill Soliloquy and the Night Machine – a jazz quintet playing Carl’s original compositions; and a variety of other groups exploring jazz, Middle Eastern music and free improvisation. In addition to concert flute and guitar, Carl also performs on bass flute, ukulele, shakuhachi and an extensive collection of other ethnic flutes.
As a composer, Carl has created original music for his various ensembles plus music for theater and film. His Klezmer Suite for Flute and Classical Guitar won first place in the 2014 National Flute Association Newly Published Music Competition. It has been performed on five continents.
Carl graduated summa cum laude from the University of Southern Maine in 1986 with a BM in Flute Performance. He has also studied privately and in masterclasses with many well-known musicians including flutist Robert Dick and shakuhachi master Yoshio Kurahashi.
Carl is a gifted and committed teacher. He taught folk, blues and jazz guitar at Colby College from 1981 - 2017. He maintains an active private studio in the Portland, Maine, area where he has taught many award winning middle and high school flute and guitar students.

Guitar virtuoso, composer, bandleader, educator and recording artist, Javier Rosario is the first ever Michel Camilo Scholarship winner. The scholarship was an initiative of the Dominican born, Grammy, Latin Grammy and Emmy Award winning pianist. It has been the first scholarship of its kind in the history of the Dominican Republic, where Javier was born in Santo Domingo. In 2006, Javier attended Berklee College of Music with full scholarship, graduating with the highest ratings ever given to a guitarist. In 2009, he performed at the Berklee Jazz and Blues Guitar Night: a concert which only featured the very top players of the entire school. In 2010, Javier decided to further his studies at the Longy School of Music of Bard College with a master’s degree. There he was awarded a Presidential Scholarship and was acknowledged by his guitar teachers as possibly the highest-level guitarist ever to enter the jazz program.
