ABOUT
May 25th is National Tap Dance Day, celebrating the birth of renound tap dancer Bill "Bojangles" Robinson. Tonight we have local tap dancer Ayan Imai-Hall performing with his band and Saxophonist Willie Smith opening up the night.
The Willie Smith Ensemble is a new and electric band led by saxophonist Willie Smith. Smith lived and played professionally in Portland, Maine for several years and currently resides in MA. His quartet includes friends with whom he has performed live and recorded. They fuse R&B, Soul, Funk, and Jazz to create their own smooth sound. Smith blends a warm, easy listening tone with jazz and American popular music for you to listen, dance, and enjoy.
Ayan Imai-Hall is a tap dancer from New Hampshire. In 2012 Ayan was awarded an NHSCA Traditional Arts Grant with Blues musician, TJ Wheeler. Since then, Ayan has strived to bring the dance to the music throughout the New England Seacoast.
The culmination of jazz music and tap dance is a tradition that has been passed down from the origins of this nation. Enjoy an evening of Jazz and Tap Dance through American Songbook favorites and Bebop era compositions.
